Foreign Bribery Investigations Ramping Up, Along With 'Carrot' For Cooperation

The US Department of Justice is increasing the number of prosecutors investigating foreign bribery and is offering to reward companies that report the misconduct of their officers and employees. The actions are likely to increase probes of the pharmaceutical industry and could put individuals at greater risk of prosecution.

The central feature of the effort is a pilot program in which companies will receive credit and a reduction in fines for "disclosure on a timely basis of all facts relevant to the wronging at issue, including all facts related to involvement in the criminal activity by the corporation's officers, employees, or agents," according to an
