340B Snapshot: Janssen's Discounts In US Program Have Risen 220% Over Past Five Years

Janssen's 2021 US price transparency report offers insights into why the company recently joined the growing number of major pharma manufacturers who are restricting 340B discounts to contract pharmacies participating in the program.

Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc.’s price concessions in the 340B outpatient drug discount program rose from $2bn in 2016 to $6.4bn in 2021, driven by the rapid growth in contract pharmacy participation in the program over the past five years, according to the company’s recently-released US Transparency Report for 2021.

From 2020 to 2021 alone, 340B discounts increased by more than $1bn, after reaching $5.3bn in 2020, Janssen reported
