Manufacturers Argue FDA Sunscreen Reviews Keep Outside Science In Shade

FDA officials and the Public Access to Sunscreen Coalition will meet Nov. 1 in effort to find common ground between FDA and outside scientists on standards for testing requirements of new sunscreens under one of four draft guidances the agency is scheduled to finalize by the end of the year.

The Public Access to Sunscreens Coalition will make an 11th hour push on Nov. 1 to convince FDA to significantly revise scientific standards in a draft guidance on testing requirements for sunscreen ingredient proposals.

The appeal for a meeting by the manufacturer-funded group, which also includes consumer advocates, cannot come soon enough as the agency's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research is expected in November to finalize two draft guidances for sunscreen ingredient proposals, one summarizing the agency’s thinking on the
