Using Pre-Tax Savings Accounts For Supplements Proposed In Senate Budget Reconciliation

Republicans in Senate voted against majority Democrat’s proposal to use budget reconciliation for passing pandemic relief legislation, but two GOP members introduced amendment for buying supplements with HSAs because the process is an opportunity to introduce proposals not directly related economic stimulus.

Republicans added to the US Senate’s budget reconciliation process for passing another COVID-19 relief bill an amendment that would make dietary supplements eligible for purchases with pre-tax health savings accounts.

Although Republicans in the Senate voted against the majority Democrats’ proposal to use budget reconciliation for passing pandemic relief legislation, the process represents an opportunity to introduce proposals not directly related economic stimulus or to the country’s coronavirus response
