Lilly Puts Down $200m To Use Dicerna's RNAi Platform For Metabolic, Neurological Diseases

Dicerna CEO tells Scrip the companies talked for two years and the collaboration came together as new Lilly R&D leadership looked to add novel approaches. Milestone fees of $350m per target for 10 or more targets value the deal at $3.7bn.

Dicerna Pharmaceuticals Inc. went on the hunt for partners after refocusing its research and development efforts on its GalXC platform and soon began talking with Eli Lilly & Co. about harnessing the RNAi technology in the big pharma's areas of expertise. Now, the companies have entered into a formal collaboration agreement worth $200m up front and $3.5bn or more in milestone fees.

Cambridge, Mass.-based Dicerna and Lilly announced on Oct. 29 that they will use the GalXC platform to discover, develop and commercialize RNA interference (RNAi) medicines for cardio-metabolic disease, neurodegeneration and pain
