Biopharma merger and acquisition value for the fourth quarter of 2024 reached $9.4bn from 34 transactions, 15 of which had disclosed values. At the top was H. Lundbeck’s $2.6bn purchase of publicly traded US biotech Longboard Pharmaceuticals. This deal and four other M&A transactions hit or exceeded the billion-dollar mark during Q4 (see Exhibit 1).

During Q4, biopharma merger and acquisition deal value reached $9.4bn and drew in $72.8bn in potential deal value from alliances. Device company M&A values reached $395m, while in vitro diagnostics and research tools players’ M&A activity totaled $604m.
