CHPA Consulting With OTC Antiseptic Advocates As Sunscreen GRASE Push Begins

Following FDA’s proposed sunscreen rule in February, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association has opened a line of communication with the American Cleaning Institute to gain insight into the GRASE data delivery process that kicked off for consumer antiseptic products in September 2016.

Sunscreen industry stakeholders facing the potential loss of UV filters under FDA’s OTC drug review could have much to gain from the antibacterial soap sector, which is about halfway into a five-year work plan to keep priority germ-killing ingredients available on an OTC basis.

Little Industry Opposition To FDA Plan To Remove Synthetic Dyes, Or Agreement They’re Unsafe

Dyes and colors which FDA says industries agree should no longer be used aren’t unsafe and are currently used only with the agency’s approval, industry stakeholders say. Center for Science in the Public Interest says the dyes are used “in tens of thousands of foods and beverages that are commonly consumed here in the United States.”
