Abbott US Nutrition Chief Testifies ‘Safety First’ During House Hearing On Formula Shortage

Executives with Abbott Nutrition and two other major US infant formula providers offered largely different views of the market and of Abbott Nutrition’s recall leading to a shortage during a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing on 25 May.

Market Shares Then And Now

Abbott Nutrition, Gerber and Reckitt compete for US formula market share along with Perrigo Company plc and numerous niche brand firms. Market shares have changed since Abbott Nutrition’s recall and plant shutdown.

  • Gerber’s share has increased from around 8% to 9%;

  • Reckitt’s Mead-Johnson has gained much more, though
