The US compounding pharmacy that blew a whistle on a potentially carcinogenic contaminant in some OTC heartburn drugs now recommends the Food and Drug Administration order recalls of hand sanitizers containing another substance known as a carcinogen.

FDA should recall dozens of hand sanitizers found to contain benzene, a known human carcinogen, says Valisure, the compounding pharmacy that raised initial alarm about ranitidine in OTC heartburn drugs, leading eventually to withdrawals of the products.
