Using Oncology Patient Monitoring Data To Improve Outcomes

Through a grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Charles River Analytics is building a platform to collect and analyze biometric sensor data and connected devices used by cancer patients across the US. The goal of the project is to support large-scale population health research and to improve cancer outcomes.

Patient monitoring data is collected constantly, by patients’ smart phones and watches, fitness trackers and apps, and connected devices such as blood pressure monitors, scales or smart pill bottles. Unfortunately, these data are largely not aggregated or assembled for clinical research, outside of individual studies. As a result, the true value of such data is largely unknown; at the very least, it is a missed opportunity.
