President Trump has said he is taking hydroxychloroquine to help prevent him from catching COVID-19 – despite the fact that the drug is not approved for this use, and warnings from the US Food and Drug Administration that it can cause heart problems.

Speaking at the White House on 18 May, Trump told a press briefing that he had started taking the malaria and lupus medication recently
