Boston Scientific Finally Beats MRI-Compatibility Challenges In Spinal Cord Stim

The firm's Precision Montage MRI spinal cord stimulator passed FDA muster 12 years after Boston Scientific's original platform SCS device reached the market.

Boston Scientific Corp. is now going head-to-head with Medtronic PLC in the MRI-compatible spinal cord stimulation market, having launched its Precision Montage MRI spinal cord stimulation (SCS) device.

FDA approved the original Precision SCS in 2004. However, it has taken 12 years longer to earn approval for a magnetic resonance-compatible version because “MRI is not an easy thing,” Maulik Nanavaty, senior VP- Neuromodulation at Boston Scientific, said in an interview. “It's taken us awhile to get there because you need to make sure that the lead that is there is constructed with heat-cancelling technology
