Philips: It Will Take 12 Months To Repair And Replace Recalled Sleep, Ventilator Devices

Royal Philips will begin this month the unenviable task of repairing and replacing millions of BiPAP, CPAP and other mechanical ventilator devices that were recalled by the manufacturer in June. The effort will take a full year, Philips says.

Royal Philips will begin this month the unenviable task of repairing and replacing millions of recalled bi-level positive airway pressure (BiPAP), continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), and other mechanical ventilator devices. The company says the effort will take one full year.

The news comes as users of the devices scramble for alternative products. More than 2 million BiPAPs, CPAPs and ventilators were recalled in June because sound abatement foam can break down over time, posing a risk to patients
