GSK E-Mails Raise China-Like Compliance Issues In Iraq

GlaxoSmithKline may have compliance problems in places other than China, now in the Middle East where the U.K.-based company is considering bribery allegations similar to those first raised in China. According to e-mails passed within the company, it was aware of internal reports at least as long ago as 2012 that its employees were bribing physicians in Iraq to prescribe its medicines. GSK confirmed it was investigating cases in Iraq. One e-mail said the alleged briberies violated both U.K. and U.S. laws that outlaw bribery of foreign officials by a company traded in their countries.
