Fujifilm Toyama seals three-way deal to accelerate the development and global supply of favipiravir, close on the heels of the arrival of a generic version of the antiviral in India under restricted emergency use for the treatment of COVID-19.

Days after Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. made headlines with the launch of a generic version of favipiravir in India, the antiviral's originator Fujifilm Toyama Chemical Co. Ltd. has made significant strides to bolster manufacturing and supplies through a wide-ranging deal with front-line Indian firm Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. and Global Response Aid (GRA), a provider of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.

The tripartite agreement gives Dr Reddy’s exclusive manufacturing rights to the product, while the Indian firm and GRA have also been given rights to develop, sell and distribute Avigan in all countries globally except Japan, China and Russia
