PAKISTANI SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS IMPORT BAN EXPANDED BY FDA to include all surgical instruments, not just those made of stainless steel, the agency says in a Feb. 9 import alert. FDA expanded the ban on stainless steel surgical instruments from Pakistan, which has been in place since 1991, to apply to non-stainless steel instruments after discovering that manufacturers were attempting to smuggle stainless steel products into the country by mislabeling them as non-stainless steel.
