Medicare Durable Equipment Cuts Will Deepen In Next Round Of Competitive Bidding

Starting July 1, Medicare plans to pay 45 percent less than current fee-schedule rates for eight categories of DMEPOS in 91 cities, and 72 percent less nationwide for diabetes products.

Deep cuts in Medicare payments are coming this summer for numerous categories of durable medical equipment in large swaths of the country.

The next round of competitive bidding for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies kicks in July 1. Starting then, Medicare payments, including beneficiary cost-sharing, will be, on average, 45 percent less than current DMEPOS fee-schedule rates for eight categories of DMEPOS in 91 new metropolitan areas
