Varian introduces second-generation high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

Varian Associates (US) introduced its second generation high field, whole body MRI system, the Unity Inova. The research unit has been developed by SISCO, the Siemens-Varian joint venture set up in 1990. It incorporates a Varian spectrometer, Siemens' (Germany) Magnetom gradient system and AS25 whole-body actively shielded gradients, and a 4 T magnet from Oxford Magnet Technology - a Siemens-Oxford Instruments (UK) joint venture. The first unit to go on line will be at the Robarts Research Institute, London, Ontario, where it will be used for functional studies of the brain. A second system will be installed at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York.
