The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services is finally putting its support behind giving Unique Device Identifiers a place on insurance claims forms. In a letter dated July 13, CMS Acting Administrator Andy Slavitt joined US FDA Commissioner Robert Califf in urging adoption of UDIs for implantable devices on claims forms.
The letter is addressed to the Accredited Standards Committee X12, which has been working to adopt standards that would allow UDIs to be incorporated into health claims for several years....
