Medical device lobby groups plan to start a new campaign blitz after Congress returns from the Fourth of July recess to pass a standalone medical device tax repeal bill in the US House. With Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy's retirement imminent, they want to make sure the bill doesn't get knocked off the agenda by what's expected to be a heated court nomination battle in the Senate, according to AdvaMed spokesman Greg Crist.
AdvaMed says it will be flying CEOs from around the country in to Washington, DC, in the next two days to knock on doors on Capitol Hill and ask House lawmakers to repeal the 2.3% medical device excise tax. As in past campaigns, Crist says the group is teaming up with other device lobby groups, including the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA), to achieve their common goal
