FDA Announces New Safety Working Group, Tweaks To Office Of Laboratory Safety Strategic Plan

The changes come after a recent government report found persistent issues with lab safety at the agency.

Washington, D.C., USA- January 13, 2020: FDA Sign outside their headquarters in Washington DC. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or USFDA) is a federal agency of the USA.

The US Food and Drug Administration will start a dedicated working group and update its laboratory safety procedures in the wake of a government report critical of agency lab oversight practices, commissioner Stephen Hahn said in an 8 October statement.

The Government Accountability Office began monitoring lab safety at the FDA after scientists found improperly stored smallpox samples in an agency storage room in 2014, raising concerns about lab oversight practices
