EU Confirms Approval, Excuses Lack Of Data In Older Groups

A conditional marketing authorization for AstraZeneca/Oxford's COVID-19 vaccine came just hours after the European Medicines Agency’s CHMP voted unanimously to recommend it on Friday.

The European Union has granted a conditional marketing authorization for AstraZeneca/Oxford's COVID-19 vaccine, just hours after the European Medicines Agency’s key medicines committee voted unanimously to recommend it – overcoming widespread reservations about a lack of efficacy data in older people.

The decision comes at the end of a torrid week for AstraZeneca, which has found itself in an increasingly public row with the European Commission, which claims the company has broken a binding commitment by lowering its planned vaccine supplies in Q1
