Covidien Initiates Aneurysm Device Recall

The voluntary recall of Covidien’s Pipeline aneurysm embolization device and Alligator retrieval devices is expected to have a slight negative effect on earnings in the second half of the year, but the impact could increase if it takes longer than expected to replace the affected products, the firm suggested.

Covidien says it has replacement products at the ready for the 32 Pipeline aneurysm embolization devices and 621 Alligator retrieval devices affected by a voluntary recall announced April 11. But the timeline that the firm can meet for actually replacing the devices will determine the total financial impact of the action, Covidien said.
