Gaming 340B: Sen. Grassley Wants Answers On How A Hospital Bends Drug Discount Rules

The ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee sends a letter to the University of Alabama Hospital seeking details on how it has changed the admission status and treatment of patients to get 340B drug discounts for patients who would not have been eligible otherwise.

Sen. Chuck Grassley is continuing to push for answers on the integrity of the 340B drug discount program with a letter to a hospital questioning a presentation by an employee that appears to advocate gaming the 340B system by switching the admission status of patients from inpatient to outpatient.

At issue is a presentation made by University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital Senior Pharmacist Donna Evans at the 340B Annual Conference in February
