Former Purdue Chairman Sought To Shadow Opioid Sales Reps, Massachusetts AG Suit Says

Exec was worried Richard Sackler's visits could prompt complaints to FDA's Bad Ad Program; complaint alleges deceptive actions by Purdue execs to boost opioid prescriptions.

The Massachusetts Attorney General's suit against Purdue Pharma LP and its current and former executives alleges they improperly sought to boost opioid prescriptions and get patients to take the drugs at higher doses and for longer periods of time. One surprising claim is that former CEO and President Richard Sackler asked to be sent into the field with sales reps.

The amended complaint, filed in Massachusetts Superior Court Jan. 15, says Sackler wanted to shadow two reps per day for a week. The suit says other executives were worried that his promotion of opioids was "a potential compliance risk
