The Center for Drug Evaluation & Research’s ability to recruit and retain talent has improved during the COVID-19 pandemic as the US FDA’s drug center is able to offer staff the flexibility to work remotely and has “pivoted” to take full advantage of the salary and hiring authorities under the 21st Century Cures Act.

Speaking at an Alliance for a Stronger FDA webinar on 25 May, CDER Director Patrizia Cavazzoni recalled the first time she spoke to the advocacy group in 2018, and said: “I’m very pleased to report that our ability to hire and retain talent has really improved since then
