Germany is coming under pressure to drop its opposition to a proposed waiver of intellectual property protections on COVID-19 products after more than 140 former heads of state and government and Nobel Laureates wrote to the three candidates to be the next German chancellor urging them to “lead the charge to vaccinate the world.”
The election for chancellor – which will see Angela Merkel step down after 16 years in the post – will be held on 26 September
