P&G CREST GUM CARE PLAQUE/GINGIVITIS CLAIMS CHALLENGED BY FDA in a Sept. 26 warning letter. Procter & Gamble's new Gum Care tooth-paste formulated with .454 stannuos fluoride is labeled for "reducing gingivitis" due to plaque build-up. The agency noted in the warning letter that it is "not aware of any evidence that stannous fluoride is generally recognized as safe and effective for the claims in the labeling."
