Misinformation Prompted Six Court Cases Against EU COVID-19 Vaccine Approvals In 2021

The EU’s conditional approval of four COVID-19 vaccines and its decision to extend the use of Pfizer/BioNTech’s Comirnaty to a younger age group were challenged in the court last year but the cases were declared inadmissible.

Despite offering “unprecedented transparency” around its review of all coronavirus vaccines, the European Medicines Agency faced six legal challenges against conditional marketing authorizations and/or an extension of indication for COVID-19 vaccines granted by the European Commission in 2020 and 2021.

In all six cases, however, the European General Court sided with the EMA and the commission and dismissed all actions for annulment as inadmissible, the agency states in its 2021 annual report published this month
