The Council of Better Business Bureaus' investigation unit opens its doors on reviewing ad claims for nutritional products derived from cannabis by asking federal agencies to look at That’s Natural Ltd.'s claims after the Colorado firm didn't provide evidence to support its claim that CBD Hemp Oil “makes cancer cells commit ‘suicide’ without killing other cells.” CBBB's National Advertising Division on April 24 said it has referred its review of That's Natural's ad claims to the Federal Trade Commission and Food and Drug Administration for further review after the Aspen, Colo., company failed to respond to NAD’s request to provide substantiation. The policies of CBBB's Advertising Self-Regulation Council, which includes NAD, state that that when an advertiser elects not to participate in a review of its claims, NAD will prepare a review of the facts with relevant exhibits and forward the information to appropriate federal or state agencies. That's Natural already was warned by FDA in November that investigational new drug studies of an ingredient, including cannabidiol, precludes its use in dietary supplements.
