Cannabis Trade Group Threatens FSA With Legal Action As CBD Novel Food Row Intensifies

Cannabis trade association CannaPro is threatening legal action against the UK's Food Standards Agency for its response to moves by EU regulators to classify CBD as a novel Food. The FSA's handling of the situation is negatively impacting business, states CannaPro, which has warned the agency it will sue for damages.

UK cannabis, cannabidiol and hemp trade association Cannabis Professionals (CannaPro) is threatening legal action against the country’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) for the way it has handled moves by EU regulators to classify CBD supplements as novel foods.

CBD was added to the EU’s Novel Food Catalogue in January, but the FSA is yet to adopt a position on how it intends to regulate food supplements containing the cannabis extract going forward. “The FSA are considering the way forward in light of this clarification at EU level,” the regulator’s website has stated for the past two months
