EU Restriction Proposal Targets 4.4M Tons Of PFAS Headed For Environment Over Next 30 Years

“While the evaluation of such a broad proposal with thousands of substances, and many uses, will be challenging, we are ready,” says ECHA director for risk assessment Peter van der Zandt. Prepared by authorities in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, the restriction proposal has been handed over to ECHA’s scientific committees.

The EU is exploring two proposed options for restricting more than 10,000 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under its Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals regulation.

The proposal, submitted in January by authorities in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, was published on 7 February to the European Chemicals Agency’s website
