OCAC Director Katz’ Legacy: Moving Cosmetics Regulation Into Modern Era

Linda Katz, director of the Office of Cosmetics and Colors at the US Food and Drug Administration, is credited with leading efforts toward modernization of cosmetics regulations as she retires after 22 years at the helm.

Linda Katz took the reins of the Office of Cosmetics and Colors in 2002 with the intent of modernizing cosmetics regulations. The effort took 20 years and faced challenges both from inside and outside the agency, but passage of the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act was a crowning victory that will likely define her legacy.
