Allergy To Preservative MI “Epidemic”; U.K. Docs Urge Industry Action

U.K. dermatologists say allergic reactions to preservative biocide methylisothiazolinone have reached epidemic levels, with an estimated one in 10 patients presenting with eczema or dermatitis allergic to MI or a related substance. British news sites Mail Online and The Telegraph reported on dermatologists’ views leading up to a session at the British Dermatologists’ Annual Conference in Liverpool July 6-July 7.

Dermatologists in the U.K. claim allergic reactions to preservative methylisothiazolinone and related substance methylchloroisothiazolinone have reached epidemic levels, while the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association maintains that emerging figures must be viewed in proper context.
