Multiplying Ingredient 'Red Lists' Spur UL Personal-Care Safety Standard

Safety science company UL is drafting a safety standard for personal care, with the goal of helping industry better communicate to consumers that their products and ingredients have been rigorously assessed for safety. The firm aims to release a draft standard by the end of 2015, and a finalized consensus-based standard one year later.

UL LLC is consulting with industry as it works to develop a third-party personal-care safety standard and certification program, citing growing public concern about ingredients and questions from companies as to how risk assessment should be carried out and communicated.
