ECHA Exploring Cosmetic Microplastic Restrictions Under New EU Plastics Strategy

As part of its newly released plastics strategy, the European Commission has asked ECHA to prepare a proposal for restricting use of intentionally added microplastic particles in products including cosmetics. Industry groups will be weighing in on the initiative, which comes as a response to environmental concerns and increasing regulatory action at the EU member state level.

The European Chemicals Agency is accepting stakeholder input to inform a proposal under development for restricting microplastic particle use in cosmetics and other consumer products, part of the EU's larger strategy for reducing plastic waste and protecting the environment.

France's food safety regulator ANSES is proposing a reproductive toxicity category 1B classification for CBD under the EU's CLP regulation, which would mean an effective ban on CBD in cosmetics and foods.
