US FDA Restarting Domestic Inspections, Prioritizing Areas With Low Covid-19 Rates

The agency is resuming domestic inspections using a pandemic rating system to identify localities where inspections will be safest for investigators and plant workers. Another safety factor: all inspections will be pre-announced.

The US Food and Drug Administration announced plans to start "prioritized" domestic good manufacturing practice inspections on 20 July, focusing on states and localities that have low rates of COVID-19 infections.

Announcing the plans on 10 July, Commissioner Stephen Hahn said the agency “has been closely monitoring reopening criteria established at the federal, state or county levels and planning to identify when and where to resume
