Health Insurance Offering OTC Benefits Trims Spending For Consumers, Providers In CHPA Study

Study assessed benefits in 2020 for around 30,000 clients in regional Medicate Advantage plan with OTC drug benefits. Data also show consumers in the study who opted for OTC drug benefits are more likely to need to pay for medical costs.

Including OTC drug benefits in health care plans may reduce spending by consumers and their insurers for medical care and prescription drugs, according to a study commissioned by the Consumer Healthcare Products Association.
