J&J Pulls Plug On Talc Across Its Baby Powder Portfolio, Shifts To Cornstarch-Based Products

As it did when it halted sales in US and Canada in 2020, J&J’s latest announcement attributes its decision as coming from a “portfolio assessment” and stated it remains confident in using talc in baby powder and cosmetics.

Johnson & Johnson is ending production and sales of talc-containing baby powder globally, the firm announces two and a half years after halting sales in the US and Canada and 10 months after putting into bankruptcy the subsidiary it launched to manage talc injury claims.

The firm’s announcement on 11 August that it will transition to an all cornstarch-based baby powder portfolio and discontinue sales of talc-based Johnson’s Baby Powder globally in 2023 didn’t reference its LTL Management LLC business which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with its launch in October
