Handcrafted Cosmetics Sector Says Exemptions In Reform Bills Are Insufficient

Trade association for micro-sized cosmetics businesses says draft reform bills in the House and Senate propose exemption thresholds for registration and other requirements that are too low, failing to account for the high costs and unique challenges faced by its members.

Legislative proposals to update cosmetics regulations in the US would be detrimental to microbusinesses, according to the Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetics Guild, which seeks stronger exemption provisions to relieve a greater number of its members from FDA registration and other requirements.

In a recent webinar, attorney Angela Deisch of Amin Wasserman Gurnani, LLP said the department has also not provided clarity on penalties under the law, which goes into effect 1 January.
